Vito Mastrangelo Obituary

Vito Mastrangelo passed away peacefully at his home on December 9th surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 98. Vito Mastrangelo was born on May 2, 1924 in Visalia California to John and Coletta Mastrangelo. Vito was the youngest of two sons; his brother Bert Mastrangelo being 13 months older.  Bert was killed in WW2 in Northern India at the age of 21. Vito attended Washington Elementary and Jefferson for his grammar school years. He graduated from Visalia Highschool in 1942. During his high school years, he worked part time at a local gas station before and after school. Vito attended one semester at College of the Sequoias only to be drafted into the Army. 

In February 1943, Vito entered the Army. He arrived in England in April 1944 and landed in France on D-Day June 6, 1944. He was a Technical Sergeant for the 607th Graves Registration. His duty for his platoon, were to bury our dead. He served throughout Europe and was discharged on December 26, 1945. 

After returning to civilian life, he began ranching in Exeter from 1959-1972. During this time, he also worked in 3 cabinet shops and in December 1965 decided to open his own cabinet shop, Mineral King Fixtures, retiring in 1987. 

Vito’s hobbies during his lifetime included the Model A club where he restored two Ford cars. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club and contacted many radio operators around the world. He belonged to the Boat Club in Tulare County and built his own inboard ski boat. He is a life member in Amvets post 56 in Tulare as well as a member of the VFW post 1864 in Visalia and the Sons of Italy Lodge since 1965.

He preceded in death by parents John and Coletta Mastrangelo, brother Bert Mastrangelo, wife Anne Hudson Mastrangelo, daughter Jean Chapman and wife Theresa Mastrangelo. He is survived by son John Mastrangelo and wife Debbie Mastrangelo, granddaughters Kristen Nesbitt and Denise Valoff and husband Nic Valoff, great granddaughters MacKenna Nesbitt, Harrigan Nesbitt, great grandsons Gunner Valoff and Crew Valoff, great-great granddaughter Payton Alduenda. 

Reciting of the Holy Rosary will take place on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 8:30 A.M. at Smith Family Chapel, Directly Following will Be a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 608 N. Church St., Visalia. at 10:30 A.M. After will be a Committal at the Visalia Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Ave., at 12:00 P.M.
