It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Timothy “Tim” Turner on November 11, 2024, at the age of 74. Tim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and a cherished member of the Exeter, CA community. Tim was born on October 8, 1950, in Exeter, CA, where he grew up and cultivated lifelong friendships. After graduating from Exeter High School Tim attended the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, where he was admitted to the COS Hall of Fame. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from UC Irvine, where he studied Medicine. To support himself through school, Tim joined the California Division of Forestry, and it was here that he discovered his passion for firefighting, as well as his love for a kind-hearted dispatcher named Lisa Morris. Tim and Lisa married and built a family together, welcoming two children, Timothy Andrew “Andy” and Karly Christina. Tim’s commitment to CAL FIRE spanned 36 years, during which he rose through the ranks, from Seasonal Firefighter to Region Chief, earning the admiration and respect of countless colleagues across California and beyond. Even after his official retirement in 2005, Tim continued to serve the state as an annuitant for an additional 13 years. Nationally recognized in the fire service, Tim also taught at the United States Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy. We will remember Tim for his kindness, sense of humor, his love of crossword puzzles, and the joy he found in annual passes to China Peak. Whether working on projects with his grandchildren, leading the men and women of CDF and CAL FIRE, or setting an example as a loving father and husband, Tim made an enduring impact on those around him through his dedication, warmth, and friendship. Tim is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa; his children, Andy Turner (Sarah) and Karly Lewis (Tyson); his sisters, Dianne Branges and Denise Shropshire; and a multitude of grandchildren who will forever hold “Papa” close in their hearts.
A Graveside service will be held Friday, November 22 at 10am at the Exeter District Cemetery followed by a reception at the Exeter Memorial Building. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
