Stanley Oliver Obituary

Stanley Oliver passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He started life six weeks premature on the land that eventually provided his livelihood in Dinuba, CA. The self-sufficiency of a farmer’s life was part of his DNA. Never afraid of a hard day (or night) of work he prided himself in the straightness of his furrows and the fairness of his conduct. He was hesitant to ask for help but was always willing to help neighbors and strangers alike. If you fell, he would lie next to you until you could rise together.

Eager to laugh he could disarm the toughest of coots with jokes and old-time sayings that didn’t always make sense but were somehow poignant.

Stanley’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife Cynthia Oliver, his stepson Scott Barker and wife Gwendolyn Wyard, stepdaughter and husband Kecia and Tim VanMechelen, his grandchildren Jacob and Anika VanMechelen, and countless others who remember laughing with him.

A celebration of Stanley’s beautiful life will be held November 20th at 9:30am in the St. Junipero Sera Chapel at the Santa Teresita Youth Center. The Youth Center is located at the St. Anthony Retreat campus, 43816 Sierra Dr., Three Rivers, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Gentiva Hospice in Stanley’s name.

Laugh, be kind, be fair, and keep your furrows straight.
