Sandra Faye Carr, 80, died April 3, 2023 surrounded by family at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia, CA. She was born April 18, 1942 in Reedley, CA, the daughter of Alfred (Ted) Gifford Westfall and Eleanore Faye (Mahaffey) Westfall.
Sandi grew up in Dinuba, CA and graduated from Dinuba High School in 1960. She joined the US Air Force after graduation and later the US Air National Guard. She served her country for 21 ½ years. In 1970, she met and married Johnny Alvin Carr of Corpus Christi, TX and they just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. They moved to Exeter, CA in 1996 where Johnny served as pastor of the Exeter First Baptist Church. Sandi had a very strong faith and in the years prior to her death, she called The Messengers Church of Visalia her spiritual home. One of her greatest joys was teaching Sunday school and caring for her church family.
Along with her church involvement, Sandi was also actively involved with the American Legion, local veterans activities and the Exeter Kiwanis Club. Sandi also had a strong love of family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law David James Akalis of Augusta, KS.
Surviving in addition to her husband Johnny Alvin Carr are her daughters Paula Jean (Carr) Akalis of Augusta, KS, Shawna Marie (Carr) Sorber and husband John Michael of Visalia, CA, Joanna Lynne (Carr) Woodyatt and husband Shawn Brian of Exeter, CA; 8 grandchildren, Amanda (Akalis) Eagleson and husband Joe of Augusta, KS, Rebecca (Akalis) Burnett and husband Jacobb of Andover,KS, Jessica Akalis of Kansas City,MO, Caleb Akalis, currently serving in the US Air Force stationed in Italy, Emily Woodyatt, Allison Woodyatt of Exeter, CA, Abigail Sorber of Fullerton, CA, and Charles Sorber of Visalia, CA; 6 great-grandchildren, Cody, Kolby, and Jordy Eagleson, Riley Annin,Wyatt and Lane Burnett; 2 sisters, MaryLee (Westfall) Marxmiller and husband Ron of East Oakdale, CA, Pamela (Westfall) Raneri and husband Phil of Pahrump, NV, a sister-in-law Linda (Carr) Rice and husband Gary of San Antonio, TX; many nieces and nephews and bonus grandchildren she considered her own.
Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Exeter, CA on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 2-4pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Exeter Memorial Building on Sunday, May, 7 2023 at 2pm.
