Richard was born July 17, 1952 in Bishop, Texas to Ricardo and Isabel Figueroa. Richard passed away at home on the evening of August 15th. He is surived by his wife of 39 years, Maria Socorro Lopez-Figueroa. Richard leaves behind his brothers Florintino (Janice) and Ramiro (Terri) Figueroa; his sisters Lydia (JP) Brou and Erlinda Quijano. He is also surivied by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews and Jello the Cat. He was preceded by his beloved sister Enedina Portillo and brother-in-law Ed Quijano. We should mention his dear L.C., PeeWee, Francie and Daisy who were all waiting at the gate for him.

Richard used to say, "I have always marched to the beat of my own drum." Richard loved the game of golf. He enjoyed gardening, playing guitar, sports, fishing, reading and the ocean. He had many hobbies from coin collecting to bird watching. Richard was so creative as shown by the greenhouse he designed and had built with repurposed materials. Richard was most happy sitting on the patio with Daisy and Francie at his feet. He shared stories of his life experiences.  He spoke of working in the fields to help his family. Richard was employed by Citri Care, Sequoia Printing, County of Tulare Print Shop and retired in 2009 from Visalia Unified School District.

Grief is love with no place to land. Say his name and his memory will never fade. We will miss the sound of your voice, your laughter and especially your smile. You loved and cared for us in the best way possible. Richard suffered with health issues but never let the pain keep him down.

Join us as we gather to honor and remember Richard on September 4th, 2026, 11:00 am at Smith Family Chapel, 505 E. Pine St., Exeter, CA 93221.  Reception to follow at the Center for Art, Culture and History Exeter across the street from the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA or the Center for Art, Culture and History Museum.
