Paula Renee Brumley Evans passed away on June 22, 2025 in Bakersfield, California. She had
just celebrated her 60th birthday surrounded by friends and family. Paula was born on May 31, 1965 to
Weldon “Bud” and Carolyn Brumley in Ada, Oklahoma. The youngest of three daughters, she grew up in
Woodlake, California, alongside her sisters Jayna and Beth.
As a child, Paula was often found with her beloved cat Pud or dogs, Babe and Brownie. She
loved fishing with her dad and hiking the “W” in Woodlake. As a teenager, she competed in horse
vaulting and once ran for rodeo queen. Paula lived life to the fullest and wasn’t afraid of anything. She
was a cheerleader throughout high school, and graduated from Woodlake High School in 1983, forming
lifelong friendships that she held dear.
Mom was a spunky, fiery soul. She loved music and the way it allowed her to express herself—
whether singing in the church choir or belting out songs while getting ready in the morning, as her
children fondly remember.
To Mom, life wasn’t meant to be lived idly, but through joy, laughter, friendship, and adventure.
In recent years, she fulfilled her dream of traveling, experiencing the beauty of Europe, China, and Japan.
She is survived by her children, Emily Romance (husband Cyrus) and Franklin Evans; her
grandchildren, William and Rowan Romance; her partner, Patrick Wilsey, and his children, Luke and
Liam; her mother, Carolyn Brumley; and her sisters, Jayna Eager (and husband Jim), and Beth Eggleston
(and partner Jerry). She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her father, Weldon “Bud” Brumley, in 2021. Paula also leaves
behind many friends who were like family to her— and who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Paula’s life will be held on July 9th, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Rocky Hill
Community Church in Exeter, California, following a private family burial. A reception will follow.
In honor of Paula’s love for animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
Marley’s Mutts, a cause close to her heart.
