Lowell James Mawhiney

Lowell James Mawhiney, of Exeter, California, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1942 in Exeter, California to Leroy and Leera Mawhiney.

Lowell joined the Tulare County Sherriff’s Department in July 1965. He went on to serve 32 years with the Sherriff’s Department as a detective, K-9 Officer, Resident Deputy and Search and Rescue. After his retirement with the Sherriff’s Department he joined the reserves for another 20 years.

Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mawhiney, of 42 years in 2007 and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Aiello, his 4 children Cindy Grim (Raymond), Peggy Baughman (James), Steven Mawhiney (Stacy), and Paul Mawhiney. He also had 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 more great grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by 2 nephews and a niece.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 12 p.m. at the Exeter Memorial Building (324 N Kaweah Ave, Exeter, CA 93221). Reception to follow. Arrangements are being handled through Smith Family Chapel, Exeter, CA.
