Joseph Manuele

Dr. Joseph S. Manuele passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the age of 94. Joe was born May 5, 1926 in Los Angeles to Sebastian and Frances Manuele. He was the oldest of seven children. Joe graduated from Manuel Arts High School in Los Angeles in June of 1944. The following Monday, he reported to the U.S. Navy in San Diego. After completing Torpedo school, he was assigned to the pacific on the USS Salamonie AO-26. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. After his discharge from the Navy he pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. He attended Pepperdine College and then California College of Medicine, graduating in 1952. He married Joan Crates in 1948. They had 6 children. Gary, Joe, Steve, Vince, John and Nancy. In 1958, Joe moved his family to Lancaster, PA. where he completed his surgical residency in 1961. That summer, he and his family moved to Visalia, Ca. where he became a partner with Sierra Medical Group. His wife, Joan passed away in 1986. after a lengthy illness. On June 20, 1987, he married Betty Eidson Melson. After his retirement, Joe and Betty enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii and especially Italy. They also became Koi enthusiasts. Joe was especially proud of his award winning Koi and Koi pond, which was featured in National Koi Magazine. After retirement, Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved dog Winnie.

Joe is preceded  in death by his parents, Sebastian and Frances Manuele; his first wife, Joan Manuele; son, Vincent Manuele; brothers, Angelo Manuele and Pete Manuele.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty Manuele; his sons, Gary Manuele (Susie), Dr. Joseph P. Manuele (Kathy), Steve Manuele (Karin), and John Manuele (Kathleen), and his daughter Nancy Luhdorff, Betty's daughters, Shelly Jacobs, Kelly Neece and Melody Nino. His brothers, Sebastian Manuele (Gloria), and Dan Manuele and his sisters, Rose Lyons and Josephine Stillman and sister-in-Law Nell Manuele. He also leaves 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild

A private family visitation will be held and a private graveside service for Joe will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10:30 A.M., Visalia District Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia...
