Jacqueline Wilson Maniscalco (Jackie) died peacefully at home on July 31, 2023 with her family by her side.
She was born on February 22, 1924 in Lindsay, California, to Franklin Talmadge and Vivienne Hazel Wilson. She attended San Jose State College, obtaining a teaching credential in addition to her undergraduate degree. She met and married Jack Hickey in 1947 and after starting married life in the bay area, returned to Exeter to be near family. They had 7 children together. She and Jack divorced in 1969.
During her life she worked as a teacher – initially in elementary school and then in special education which she continued until retirement in 1987. She married in 1975 to Anthony R. Maniscalco, Sr.
She was active in the Exeter community, fund-raising for the Exeter Hospital Guild and the Sons of Italy, and with the Exeter Woman’s Club, where she served as president between 1990-1992 and 2007-2008. She was named Exeter Woman of the Year in the mid-1980’s.
Jackie was blessed with good health until close to her death.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, her younger sister Ann Carroll, Jack Hickey, Anthony Maniscalco Sr, as well as stepchildren – Anthony R. Maniscalco, Jr, and Michael Maniscalco. She is survived by children John Hickey, Ann Hickey, Mark Hickey, Peter Hickey, Jane Marckstadt, David Hickey, Sara LoBue, 5 grandchildren, 5 greatgrandchildren, and surviving stepchildren Jack Maniscalco, Cathy Frank, Celia Acres, and Margaret Navarro.
Viewing will be held 2-4PM on Monday August 14 at the Smith Family Chapel in Exeter. Graveside Services will start at 10AM on August 15th at the Exeter Cemetery. A Celebration of Life at the Exeter Woman’s Club, 201 Kaweah Ave. in Exeter will follow the internment.
