As a teenager he moved to Los Angeles, California where he became a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and not too long after, he took up tennis, a sport that he continuously played up until the age of 80. At the end of his teenage years he was drafted into the Navy and graduated with top honors as a radioman from the United States Naval Center in San Diego, California. In 1954, he received an honorable discharge with the following medals: Korean, United Nations, National Defense, and China service.
After the service he graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills with an emphasis in Business Administration, an education that inspired him to open the Ferguson Home, a nursing facility in Exeter, California. Over the course of 40+ years, Henry made a name for himself in Tulare county where he actively participated in the Kiwanis Club, Exeter Chamber of Commerce, The American Legion, and was even nominated to run for Exeter’s City Treasurer.
Henry lived a long and productive life surrounded by the people he cared for and loved. He now joins his Father, Mother, and son Erik Ferguson while watching over his wife, Alice Ferguson, granddaughter Erika Ferguson, in-laws Melvin & Patricia Nalls, step-children, and a slew of relatives from the Posey, Henderson, and Woods family as well as beloved friends throughout California.
