Hanna Martin Obituary

Hanna Louise Martin, our beloved Mother, Nana, and Nana GG, was called home to be with the Lord on March 1st, 2021.

Louise was born on August 21st, 1934 in Dallas, TX but spent her early childhood in Oklahoma City and Grants, NM before moving to Exeter where her father ran a turkey ranch on the back side of Rocky Hill. She made many happy memories growing up in Exeter and often recalled her childhood friends that she spent countless hours with throughout her young life. Louise graduated from Exeter Union High School and married her high school sweetheart, Harold Martin, in 1952. Harold and Louise spent the large part of their marriage in Exeter where they raised their two children, Dewey and Deanne. Louise worked at Joseph’s and The Younger Set in Exeter and loved serving and being a part of her community through her work. She also enjoyed working on her citrus ranch and taking care of her home. But, her proudest accomplishment was raising her family. She was a Mom, Nana, and Nana GG above all else. She also enjoyed spending time with her Napa family with whom she shared a special bond. In retirement, Harold, Louise and their dog, Brady, traveled all over the United States in their RV. They especially enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Montana. Louise also volunteered with the Exeter Pink Ladies Service Guild for many years and served as the president of the guild at the time of her passing.

Louise/ Mom/ Nana/ and Nana GG will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends, her service to her community, her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, and her can-do attitude. She put her all into everything she did and had such pride in her family and work. She was truly one in a million and touched countless lives during her time on Earth. Goodbyes are difficult but we rest in the peace of knowing that she is with her Savior and those who passed before her and take comfort in knowing that we will meet her again soon.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Denver and Bonita Burkett, her brother, Tom Burkett, and her husband, Harold Martin.

Louise is survived by her son Dewey Martin and wife Pam, daughter Deanne Hall and husband Brad, granddaughter Samantha Schanzenbach and husband Michael, granddaughter Kelsey Qualls and husband Justin, granddaughter Melissa Tashjian, granddaughter Eva Hall, grandson Dustin Hall, and great-grandchildren Matthew, Aiden and Anora Schanzenbach and Indigo and Astoria Qualls, as well as many others to whom she served as an honorary mom and Nana. She will forever be in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held in Louise’s honor on March 27th, 2021. Please contact Smith Family Chapel at (559) 592-9119 for details.
