Gaylene Denise Scott, August 19, 1952 ~ January 24, 2025

Gaylene Scott passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in Exeter, CA on January 24, 2025 at the age of 72.  She was born in Exeter in 1952 to Tivis Landers and Dolores Haynes Upton.  From an early age she was known as “the little bookworm” of the family growing up in the area and graduating from Exeter High School.  She then attended Cuesta College and began her career as a bookkeeper.  In 1980, she started as a dispatcher with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office where she also worked as an IT Technician, and retired after 25 years of dedicated service.  Gaylene shared her beautiful smile and kind nature with everyone she met and was beloved by all.  In retirement she worked with animal rescue organizations and showed unconditional love to several adopted dogs.  She was also a long time and loyal Denver Broncos’ fan who rarely missed a game.  

She is survived by her adoring husband, Mike Scott.  They recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on January 15, and he affectionately called her “Pumkie.” Gaylene is also survived by her son Lee Griffith of Exeter; son Jason Scott and his wife Jill of Visalia along with grandchildren Zachary and Sophia; daughter Jen Stasch, granddaughter Elizabeth Stasch and her fiance Ben Toll of Vermont; aunt Connie George, and cousin Jenn Steinhauer and her daughter Danielle Steinhauer of Exeter; and brother Lee Landers, and four nephews.

The Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Exeter Memorial Veterans Building (324 N Kaweah Ave, Exeter, CA 93221) beginning at 11:00 am with lunch to follow.  Donations to Central Valley Rescue Railroad would be greatly appreciated (P.O.
